Tatami, originally meaning folded or piled, traditionally used in Japan as flooring. Our Tatami Mats are made by using the traditional methods of using condensed rice straw to form the core and woven straw top. An item that is used by the nobles in Japan is now available for all to use in home furnishing. Although tatami mats existed for hundreds of years, the idea of putting the mats on a platform bed was first introduced to the US by Thomas and Sandra.
